Sales Tax-Free Week is August 16 - 22!

Dear Friends and Neighbors,
From Sunday, August 16 through Saturday, August 22, Connecticut will celebrate Sales Tax-Free Week – an annual tradition where certain clothing and footwear items under $100 may be purchased tax-free from any store or online retailer. Examples include athletic socks, baseball caps, belts/suspenders/buckles, blouses, chef uniforms, diapers, ear muffs, formal wear rentals, gloves, golf shirts, hats/caps, jeans, overclothes, rain jackets, rented uniforms, shirts, swim suits, work clothes, and much more.
Here is a complete list of exempt and nonexempt items.
Tax-Free Week began 20 years ago and has provided a consistent boost to our state economy. Now, our local small business owners are depending on this event more than ever to help them recover from one of the worst economic downturns in decades.
Unfortunately, not all state leaders have appreciated the benefit of this tax holiday. Last year, Governor Lamont tried to eliminate Tax-Free Week as part of his biennial budget proposal. Fortunately, thanks to strong opposition led by House and Senate Republicans, the proposal was not included in the final budget. If elected, this is something I will always fight to preserve.
If you are able to do so, I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy some shopping and to help support local businesses here in Norwalk, Westport and Wilton. As always, please remember to wear your mask! The pandemic remains a real threat to public health, which is why many business owners have taken extensive measures to protect customers in accordance with the state’s reopening guidelines for retail and malls.
I thank our entrepreneurs who have embraced this uncertain environment, adapted to the new norm, and are here to serve their communities during this challenging time. I hope brighter days are ahead for all business owners both in our area and throughout Connecticut.
